About The World of theindieg
The World of theindieg is where I document things I find interesting enough to take apart, dig into, or think about properly.
That usually means:
- opening up electronics to see how they really work
- exploring bits of technology history that don’t get talked about much
- writing field notes from trips, deployments, or just being outside paying attention
It’s not a news site, and it’s not trying to keep up with anything.
What you’ll find here
Most posts fall into a few areas:
Teardowns
Opening devices and figuring out design decisions, good and bad.
Weird history
Old tech, forgotten ideas, and things that should probably be remembered.
Field notes
Trips, deployments, and observations — often tied to wildlife or outdoor work.
Projects & experiments
Things I’m building, testing, or occasionally breaking.
About me
I’m Ryan Smith, an electronics engineer working across hardware, sensing systems, and real-world deployments.
A lot of my work sits somewhere between engineering and the outdoors — building things that actually have to survive in the real world, not just on a bench.
This site is where I keep the more interesting parts of that journey.
Why this exists
Why not? I need somewhere to vent
